Fred Jones is a Senior Associate with Michael Baker International. Mr. Jones is a professional transportation planner with over 15 years of experience in project and program management for a variety of community planning and mobility initiatives. His expertise includes multimodal corridor planning, complete streets and active transportation, transit-oriented development, as well as extensive experience in land use, coding and regulatory issues. In addition, Mr. Jones brings particular experience in safety and access to transit, scenario planning, storytelling, and the development of performance measures to enhance the transportation and land use decision-making process. His training in anthropology led to his career in planning as he believes “urban planning is anthropology.”

Mr. Jones was previously the Chairman for the DDRB. Currently, he sits on the National Complete Streets Coalition Steering Committee as part of Smart Growth America. As Vice Mayor of Neptune Beach, which was recognized as having one of the best Complete Streets Policies of 2018, Mr. Jones is leading a number of strategic planning initiatives including a Citywide Visioning plan, the implementation of an active transportation network and a form-based zoning code update. Most recently, he provided federal testimony to the US House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on roadway safety and new performance measures to foster greater accountability.

Previously, Mr. Jones served as senior transit planner with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA). In this role, he oversaw JTA’s Complete Streets program which seeks to increase the first and last mile accessibility and safety of JTA’s newly designed transit system. Mr. Jones is a Certified Planner with a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Florida State University.
